I have been wanting to do this for awhile… however do you have to own an Audi??? or would a 07 G 35x fit in??

  2. mark on November 20th, 2008 1:51 pm

No need to own an Audi. We welcome all makes (as long as their in good running condition). See you on the ice!!

24 – Sat: Teen Ice Driving Event – Lake Cynthia

What is the fee for this event and do you have any requirements?

  6. Mary Carlson on December 8th, 2008 12:58 pm

How do you register for the Teen Ice Driving Event at Lake Cynthia on January 24, 2009? Also, what is the cost?
    Thanks, Mary

    In response to some questions…

No pre-requisites required (school, snow tires, studs, etc.). Bring a well running car (no leaks as we are on a lake), a helmet if you have one (otherwise we’ll have those available at no charge), and $60 per driver, which covers the cost of plowing, maintaining the course, and other administrative expenses.

This is an awesome opportunity to learn how to handle a car with little speed or risk. Feel free to contact me directly at 612-805-4808 if you have any further questions. I’ll try to get a map link up soon. It’s just southeast of Prior Lake. Thanks.

This sounds like a great time … any reason I should not enter with a Landrover 4WD? Would rollover risk be too high? I have had it out on lakes nearer home for some fun without any ’scary’ moments, but I’m not sure what you have seen driven on your event before.

    All the best,
    David.

I am looking to sign up my teenager. Would it be okay for him to come to the class on January 11th or would you recommend him attending the one offered on the 24th Jan??

    Thanks
    Shannon

  10. mark on January 5th, 2009 11:05 am

Hi Shannon, thanks for your question. I would recommend your teenager come on the 24th as we will have a bit more structure and instruction resources available. However, if they can not make it on the 24th, we can accommodate them on the 11th. Hope this helps.

  11. mark on January 5th, 2009 11:08 am

    Hi David,

We will not be allowing SUVs to participate in these ice driving events. The reason is exactly as you mention, rollover risk. With the snow being quite deep this year, the banks of the course and exercise areas will be relatively big. Sliding into one of these banks sideways could pose considerable risk to vehicles with a high center of gravity. Hope to still see you out there with a different vehicle. Thank you.

  12. Zachary Lehman on January 5th, 2009 1:33 pm

I am planning on bringing a friend, who (if the structure permits) may want to drive my car. Would we both need to pay the registration fee?

    Thank you!

  13. Greg L. on January 5th, 2009 5:28 pm

Quik ? Do we have to bring cash? or is check ok?? This should be a go.. ice should be good?

  14. mark on January 7th, 2009 11:20 am

The $60 fee we have is per driver. However, we may be able to make some accommodations for a temporary driver, etc. See me the morning of the event. Thanks.

  15. mark on January 7th, 2009 11:22 am

Cash would be preferable, but check is also accepted. Thanks.

Any word on how rough the ice is this year? SCCLAC is canceling their ice racing near LaCrosse this weekend due to rough ice conditions on their lake. I thought it was pretty rough last year for the two events I attended with GLQC on Lake Cynthia. If it’s much worse now I may want to wait for a later event in hopes the ice smooths out…

  17. Diane Carrk on January 11th, 2009 10:37 am

Are there any nearby hotels you would recommend? We’re coming from La Crosse on the 24th for Teen Driving and wish to stay overnight.

Also, if another teen comes along with us, would they be able to share our car?
    Thank you,
    Diane

  18. mark on January 12th, 2009 11:09 am

It wasn’t too bad yesterday. I bit bumpy, but no big ruts or humps.

  19. Mark Gottwalt on January 12th, 2009 11:28 am

I am not familiar with the hotels in the area, but I’m sure there’s some relatively close by in Prior Lake, MN or Lakeville, MN.

I can’t find the recap for Jan 11th. Are the times posted somewhere?

  21. Mark Gottwalt on January 14th, 2009 9:52 pm

Hi, Trying to get the times posted now. Along with a re-cap.

Hey, is there going to be any sort of discount for those who wish to participate on the 24th in the teen clinic, AND the 25th…$120 in a weekend plus gas is a bit much.

  24. David on January 17th, 2009 2:05 pm

Derrik, $120 for a weekend of fun is cheap if you’re used to doing weekend’s at BIR or Road America for $500 + fuel + tire wear + brake wear + hotel = about $1000 :)

    Hi there,

I am a complete novice when it comes to winter driving (just moved from California) so I would like to attend the event on January 25th. But I can’t make it till 11 am. Can I still participate? Would really appreciate it.

  27. sk on January 18th, 2009 5:39 pm

In case you are unable to open the Recap page to see the results…

  28. Kevin on January 19th, 2009 8:56 pm

Be there at 8 AM and it runs until 5PM right? Is there a lunch break – food nearby or should we bring something?

What can the adults do while the teens are having fun? Do you need volunteers for anything?

  29. Dave D on January 22nd, 2009 9:31 am

When do you know if the teen ice driving event this coming Saturday is a “go”? Do you need parents to participate as cone spotters like you do for the summer teen clinics?

  30. Josh Nelson on January 24th, 2009 11:08 pm

I am 17 years old and want to attend a ice driving event but was not able to make the teen day. I was wondering if I can attend a regular event and where I can get a parent waiver.

    Thanks for the help

Any reason on why the WDS School at Gull Lake Feb 28-Mar 1 was cancelled?
Was planning on going, but guess not now.

  32. Matt B on February 6th, 2009 11:12 am

Does one have to show up right at 8 am for the ice driving event or can we come later?

  33. Mark Gottwalt on February 9th, 2009 2:39 pm

Sorry for the delayed response… It was canceled due to lack of interest and the club being behind on the marketing / operational end of it. We do see a lot of value in this event and will plan better next year to make it happen. Thank you.

  34. Mark Gottwalt on February 9th, 2009 2:42 pm

Well… yes. We like to have enough time to get everyone registered, waivers signed, etc. The drivers meeting at 8:30am is important if you’ve never done one of our events. We get started driving around 9:00am. Hope this helps. Thank you.

  35. Hank Nisiewicz on February 14th, 2009 2:43 pm

I drove in your ice school in 2003. At that time we were incouraged to brown bag our lunches, as no suitable fast food place or otherwize was conveniently close.

I didn’t see any comments when I signed up for the 2/22 event this year. Does the same apply?

  36. Derrik on February 20th, 2009 12:06 pm

Can I get a pdf copy of the minor wavers? I have 2 people who want to ride but need to sign the wavers and their parents will be busy and not able to sign the wavers there…
