BIR Driver Training and Lapping: April 30-May 2, 2010

Get ready for spring! GLQC will be joining Nord Stern PCA for an event at Brainerd International Raceway Friday, April 30 through Sunday, May 2.

Driver Training will be held on Friday, April 30, which includes classroom and behind the wheel exercises to teach and enhance car control and driving technique.

Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2 will be controlled run group lapping on the short and long tracks. Novice and intermediate (non-solo) drivers will be assigned instructors as necessary.

Friday’s Driver Training is required for novice and intermediate (non-solo) drivers to participate in the Saturday/Sunday lapping. If you cannot attend the Driver Training at BIR on April 30, a special Driver Training will be held on Sunday, April 18 at Dakota County Technical College, in Rosemount, MN, as a prerequisite to the weekend lapping at BIR.

February 28, 2010 Ice Driving Recap

It was a gorgeous, sunny day for our last ice event of the season. We had our biggest turnout of the series with 36 drivers participating in the fun. Thank you to everyone who participated and volunteered at the ice events this year.

February 14, 2010 Ice Driving Recap

It was another fun day on the lake! We had a beautifully sunny winter day, which didn’t give way to the wind and icy snow until the event was just about wrapped up. 26 drivers came out to participate and a number of spectators stopped in throughout the day. Thanks to the fresh, deep snow almost everyone wound up taking a turn (or two, or three..) in the snow banks. Thank you to our own Rick Grothe for his towing services — he definitely had a busy day.

Sorry folks, we had a glitch in the lap timing program so those of you who were on the course right after the lunch break might not have timed laps. There were also a few eager drivers who didn’t wait for the thumbs-up before heading out (we can only track five vehicles at a time.)

January 31, 2010 Ice Driving Recap

It was a cold but sunny day on the ice for our combined adult and teen event. The ice was extremely slick, creating quite a challenge as well as some good fun! We had nearly a dozen teens come out to sharpen their winter driving skills. It was great to see everyone progressing throughout the day.

Michael Haggar earned fastest time on non-studded tires. Josh Jutting in his Del Sol with chained front tires took second best time of the day, and Jack Enos took best time overall in his GTI with studded tires.

Thank you to everyone who participated and special thanks to our crew of instructors and volunteers who came out to lend a hand.

January 17, 2010 Ice Driving Recap

It was a great day for our first ice event of the year. About 30 drivers came out for some time on the ice.

Sam Stone earns bragging rights for fastest time on non-studded tires and Ryan Heidcamp was the fastest on studded tires.

Thanks to everyone who participated or volunteered! Weather permitting, we have three more ice events to look forward to this season.

2010 Teen Driving Clinic Schedule

Our 2010 Teen Driving Clinics held at Dakota County Technical College in Rosemount, MN, are scheduled for the following dates:

- Saturday, April 17
- Sunday, June 27
- Saturday, August 21

Board of Directors Election and Annual Meeting – Dec. 3

On December 3rd, 2009 our open annual meeting was held at Carousel Audi, where we conducted a yearly review and took nominations for three seats opening up on the Board of Directors. Four nominations were given to the Nominating Committee for consideration. We thank the members who attended or called in to the meeting. Meeting Minutes are available to ACNA members only. Board of Directors and Election Update

In December we held our annual meeting to update the membership on our current status and to accept nominations for the Board of Directors, of which three seats were open. We received four nominations with only three of them accepting the nomination. Since there were three seats to fill and only three candidates, we felt it unnecessary to hold an election, and thus the three candidates were appointed to the standard three-year terms on the Board of Directors.

We are happy to announce your new Glacier Lakes Chapter Board Members are:
Sig Finks, Mark Pladson, and Ron Woods.

These three people bring a wealth of experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm to the Board and we are very confident in their leadership ability to move this chapter forward. Please join us in congratulating Sig, Mark, and Ron on their positions.

At the same time, we also thank Bill Caeser, Mark Gottwalt, and Louis Zachary for all they’ve done in the past three years while serving on the Glacier Lakes Chapter Board. Bill held our finances together well. Mark supported administrative, registration, and correspondence activities. Louis’ overall leadership was second to none. Thanks again, guys!!

Keith Anderson, Kent Anderson, Peter Puffer, and Barb Weernink continue serving as Board members.
We look forward to a successful 2010 year as we continue to implement ideas to expand the club and serve you.

Tues, Dec 15th – GLQC / MALT Toys For Tots Fundraiser

Our 2009 Toys for Tots bike fund was a big success. Through the generosity of those who donated, and our campaign sponsor, Wal-Mart, we were able to purchase 88 bikes for the less fortunate children in our community! Thank you to all who donated, and to the dozen or more people who came out on a cold night to Edina Grill for the GLQC/MALT social to enjoy some good food, beverage and great conversation.

Additional thanks go to Wal-Mart for their sponsorship, to Kent Anderson for coordinating the purchase and delivery of the bikes, and to Leonard Loh and Barb Weernink for arranging the social.
